Sperm Warfare is a potent aphrodisiac
Why are some men excited by the idea of their women being with other men? Jealous, hurt or even angry, upon seeing another man flirt with his lady, many an otherwise sensible guy can’t wait to make love the moment he gets her home.
Evolutionary biology explains the twist. Scientists used to think there was one kind of sperm with a single goal: to inseminate eggs. Recently, evolutionary biologists Robin Baker and Mark Bellis found that these “egg-inseminators” make up only about 1% of a man’s sperm count. Most sperm, it seems, behave more like team players than individual racers. Some are equipped to kill another man’s sperm in a kind of “Sperm War;” they are, in football terms, the offensive tackles in a woman's internal Sexual Super Bowl. Other sperm play defense, protecting their inseminator-quarterback brothers from another man’s warrior sperm.
